As part of our pioneer leadership team, we seek an accomplished Risk & Compliance professional to establish and lead the Bank's Enterprise Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance function. The successful candidate will play a critical role in embedding a strong risk culture, safeguarding the Bank's assets, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting sustainable business growth.
Position Summary The Head of Risk & Compliance shall provide strategic leadership for the Bank's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Compliance functions. The role is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring and mitigating risks across the Bank while ensuring full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.
The successful candidate will establish a robust risk management framework, promote a culture of ethical conduct and regulatory compliance, oversee AML/CFT compliance and advise Executive Management and the Board on emerging risks and regulatory developments.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Risk Management
· Develop and implement the Bank's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
· Establish the Bank's risk appetite statement and risk tolerance limits.
· Identify strategic, operational, credit, market, liquidity, technology and reputational risks.
· Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments.
· Maintain and update the Bank's Risk Register.
· Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and escalate emerging risks.
· Develop risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
· Ensure effective risk reporting to Executive Management and the Board.
Credit Risk Management
· Develop and maintain credit risk policies and procedures.
· Review and recommend improvements to credit underwriting standards.
· Monitor portfolio quality and concentration risk.
· Track Portfolio at Risk (PAR), delinquency and Non-Performing Loans (NPLs).
· Review high-value or high-risk credit proposals.
· Analyse sectoral and geographic credit exposures.
· Recommend corrective actions to improve asset quality.
· Monitor adherence to approved lending limits and delegated authorities.
Operational Risk
· Identify operational risks across all business units.
· Conduct Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA).
· Review operational incidents and loss events.
· Recommend process improvements to reduce operational risk.
· Monitor third-party and outsourcing risks.
· Oversee Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP).
· Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure full compliance with
· Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA)
· CBN Guidelines for Microfinance Banks
· NDIC Regulations
· CBN Consumer Protection Framework
· CBN Corporate Governance Guidelines
· Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA)
· Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA)
· Financial Reporting Council (FRC) requirements
· Other applicable banking and financial services regulations.
AML/CFT & Financial Crime Compliance
Serve as the Bank's Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), where designated, by:
· Developing and implementing AML/CFT policies and procedures.
· Ensuring robust Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes.
· Monitoring customer transactions for suspicious activities.
· Filing Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) with the appropriate regulatory authorities.
· Conducting sanctions screening and politically exposed persons (PEP) checks.
· Coordinating AML/CFT training for staff.
· Maintaining AML/CFT compliance records.
· Liaising with regulatory and law enforcement agencies on financial crime matters.
Compliance Monitoring
· Develop the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan.
· Conduct compliance reviews across all departments.
