About the Role

We’re building Intellyjent – Africa’s Talent Infrastructure. Intellyjent is an AI-powered recruitment and talent development platform that upskills African youth and matches them with local and global job opportunities through partnerships with leading HR organisations. We’re looking for a highly versatile Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our engineering team. This role is ideal for an engineer with substantial hands-on industry experience who can move fluidly between frontend and backend systems, owns features end-to-end, and thrives in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.

You'll be primarily responsible for architecting and maintaining robust backend services in Python/Django, while remaining fully capable of working across the stack in React to ship complete, production-ready features. We're also looking for someone fluent in modern AI-assisted development workflows, using tools like Claude Code to accelerate development without compromising code quality.

Key Responsibilities

•
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful/GraphQL APIs using Django and the Django REST Framework.
•
Develop and maintain performant, responsive user interfaces using React, consuming and integrating backend APIs.
•
Architect and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, and migrations using Django ORM.
•
Implement and manage caching layers (Redis) and asynchronous task processing (Celery) to improve system performance and reliability.
•
Deploy, monitor, and scale applications on AWS, leveraging services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, and WAF.
•
Containerize applications using Docker, including writing and optimizing Dockerfiles and managing multi-container environments with Docker Compose.
•
Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, building, and deployment.
•
Use version control (Git) effectively within a collaborative, branch-based workflow (e.g., GitFlow, trunk-based development).
•
Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate feature development, refactoring, debugging, and documentation, while maintaining strong code review discipline.
•
Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and contribute to establishing engineering best practices across the team.
•
Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical planning sessions.
•
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the full stack, from UI to infrastructure.
•
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
•
Mentor junior and mid-level developers as needed.

Required Qualifications

General

1.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

2.

Demonstrated versatility across both frontend and backend development, with a strong bias toward backend ownership.

Backend (Python / Django)

4.

Solid understanding of the Python programming language and its broader ecosystem (packaging, virtual environments, common libraries).

5.

Strong experience with Django and/or Django REST Framework for building scalable web applications and APIs.

6.

Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and solid grasp of ORM concepts (query optimization, migrations, indexing, relationships).

7.

Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD practices (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar).

8.

Working knowledge of caching mechanisms (Redis) and message queues / task queues (Celery) for handling asynchronous and background processing.

9.

Practical experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS, and media/asset management tools like Cloudinary.

AWS Services (Hands-on Experience Required)

•
EC2 — provisioning, configuring, and managing compute instances
•
VPC — networking, subnets, security groups, routing
•
IAM — roles, policies, and access management best practices
•
RDS — managing relational database instances (PostgreSQL preferred)
•
ElastiCache — implementing Redis/Memcached-based caching solutions
•
S3 — object storage, static/media file management
•
WAF — configuring web application firewall rules for security

Docker & Containerization

•
Proficiency with Docker CLI and API
•
Experience writing and optimizing Dockerfiles for production environments
•
Hands-on experience with Docker Compose for orchestrating multi-container applications

Frontend (React)

10.

Proficient in React, including hooks, component architecture, and state management.

11.

Skilled at consuming and integrating with backend APIs, handling authentication, error states, and data flow between client and server.

12.

Understanding of responsive design principles and modern frontend tooling (bundlers, package managers, linting).

AI-Assisted Development

13.

Demonstrated skill using AI coding tools — particularly Claude Code — as part of the regular development workflow.

14.

Ability to effectively prompt, review, and refine AI-generated code, ensuring it meets production quality, security, and performance standards.

15.

Comfortable integrating AI tooling into debugging, testing, documentation, and refactoring workflows without over-relying on it for critical architectural decisions.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

•
Experience with GraphQL.
•
Exposure to microservices architecture.
•
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
•
Experience with monitoring/observability tools (CloudWatch, Sentry, Datadog, etc.).
•
Prior experience in a startup or fast-scaling product environment.
•
Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub portfolio.

Soft Skills

•

•

•
