About the Role The Lead Backend & Platform Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the company and ensuring that the platform is secure, scalable, reliable and ready for growth.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering position combining backend development, systems architecture, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering and CI/CD ownership.

The successful candidate will establish the technical foundations required to build, test, deploy, monitor and operate the platform effectively. They will also help define engineering standards and guide technical decisions as the engineering team grows.

This position is highly collaborative and requires close interaction with the:

• Other business and technology stakeholders

The ideal candidate will be comfortable designing complex systems, solving data-heavy problems, creating cloud infrastructure and building secure fintech services.
What You Will Do

Backend Architecture and Systems Design

• Lead the design and implementation of core backend services using C# and ASP.NET Core.

• Define and evolve scalable service architectures for high-volume data processing and insight delivery.

• Make architectural decisions covering application structure, service boundaries, API design, data storage and integration patterns.

• Establish engineering best practices for performance, reliability, security, maintainability and testing.

• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to other engineers.

• Identify and resolve technical risks before they affect customers or platform growth.

• Maintain clear technical documentation for important systems and architectural decisions.

Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Engineering

• Design, configure and maintain the company’s cloud infrastructure using AWS, Azure or GCP.

• Establish secure development, testing, staging and production environments.

• Configure cloud networking, identity and access management, storage, compute services, databases and security controls.

• Implement Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation or equivalent technologies.

• Design infrastructure that is scalable, fault-tolerant, cost-conscious and suitable for a regulated fintech environment.

• Manage containerised applications using Docker and, where appropriate, container orchestration services.

• Establish appropriate backup, disaster recovery and business continuity processes.

• Monitor and optimise cloud infrastructure performance and expenditure.

CI/CD and Release Automation

• Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins or similar technologies.

• Automate application builds, testing, security checks, artefact creation and deployment.

• Establish controlled and repeatable deployment processes across development, staging and production environments.

• Implement suitable deployment strategies, including rolling, blue-green or canary deployments where appropriate.

• Integrate automated unit, integration and security testing into delivery pipelines.

• Establish appropriate approval, rollback and release-management processes.

• Manage application configuration and secrets securely across different environments.

• Improve deployment frequency while reducing deployment-related risks and manual intervention.

Data Platform Development

• Design and optimise PostgreSQL schemas for large-scale, high-integrity datasets.

• Build and maintain resilient data-ingestion and processing pipelines.

• Develop efficient data models to support operational services, analytics and downstream applications.

• Ensure database migrations are controlled, tested and included within deployment processes.

• Implement appropriate indexing, caching, partitioning and query-optimisation strategies.
