Senior Backend Engineer — Expert Listing
Lagos, Nigeria (Remote-friendly) | Full-time | Immediate Start
Expert Listing is Nigeria's next-generation real estate platform built to make property discovery faster and more accessible for buyers, renters, agents, and developers across Nigeria and Africa.
We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build the server-side backbone of our biggest product launch to date: the Expert Listing Feed a real estate social network built natively into the platform where agents, developers, and owners post properties, videos, and updates in real time.
What you will build:
The Feed backend is greenfield. You will own the architecture and execution real-time feed delivery, media processing pipeline, geospatial filtering, boost and ranking logic, push notification infrastructure, and search. It needs to be fast, reliable, and built for high mobile traffic on variable Nigerian networks.
You are a strong fit if you have:
• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Deep expertise in Python, Django, FastAPI, or Flask
• Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs at scale
• Experience with real-time features: WebSockets, SSE, or equivalent
• Media processing pipeline experience image compression, video transcoding, CDN integration
• Geospatial query experience for location-based filtering
• Strong database skills PostgreSQL or similar, query optimisation and indexing
• Experience with caching strategies Redis or equivalent
• Cloud infrastructure experience AWS, GCP, or equivalent
Our stack: Python (backend), TypeScript / JavaScript (frontend). For the Feed, we want your technical recommendation we care about the best outcome, not a prescribed tool.
