About the Role We are looking for a Backend Engineer with strong Laravel (PHP) experience and working knowledge of Node.js to support legacy applications while actively contributing to our transition toward a modern Node.js-based backend architecture. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy modernizing systems, working across stacks, and growing into a Node.js-first backend or full-stack role.
Key Responsibilities:
Legacy Application Support
· Maintain and enhance existing Laravel applications
· Fix bugs, optimize performance, and apply security patches
· Document legacy code and business logic to support migration
Modern Backend Development (Node.js)
· Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js
· Build RESTful APIs consumed by React frontends and third-party services
· Participate in rewriting or refactoring Laravel modules into Node.js services
System Transition & Collaboration
· Work closely with React frontend engineers, QA, and Product Managers
· Participate in code reviews across Laravel and Node.js codebases
· Contribute to backend architecture decisions and best practices
· Support gradual decommissioning of legacy Laravel systems
Qualifications:
Technology Stack
Current
· Laravel (PHP)
· MySQL / PostgreSQL
· REST APIs
Core (Must-Have)
· 3+ years experience with Laravel (PHP)
· Strong understanding of:
o MVC architecture
o Eloquent ORM
o Authentication & middleware
o Queues / background jobs
· Experience building REST APIs
· Solid SQL knowledge (MySQL / PostgreSQL)
· Git version control
Node.js (Working Knowledge Required)
· Hands-on experience with Node.js
· Familiarity with Express.js or NestJS
· Understanding of asynchronous programming (promises, async/await)
· Ability to read, debug, and contribute to Node.js codebases
Nice-to-Have (Advantage)
· TypeScript experience
· Experience migrating or refactoring legacy systems
· Knowledge of Docker and CI/CD pipelines
· Exposure to React or frontend collaboration
· Experience working in a product-led or SaaS environment
