Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer with 6+ years of professional software engineering experience to architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs.
The ideal candidate must possess strong expertise in backend development using NestJS and/or Laravel, with deep knowledge of microservices architecture, API development, database optimization, CI/CD automation, and cloud deployment practices.
This role requires a technical leader capable of driving backend architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, improving engineering standards, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver reliable and scalable software products.
Key Responsibilities
Architect, design, and develop robust, scalable, and secure backend systems and microservices.
Build and maintain backend services using: NestJS, Laravel
Lead API architecture and establish standards for:
RESTful APIs, API versioning, Authentication and authorization, API documentation and governance,
Design and optimize database structures for scalability and performance.
Improve database efficiency through: Query optimization, Indexing strategies, Caching mechanisms, Performance monitoring
Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
Implement backend security best practices and system reliability measures.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and stakeholders to define technical scope and delivery timelines.
Participate in architecture reviews and technical planning sessions.
Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement long-term solutions.
Write clean, maintainable, testable, and well-documented code.
Mentor and support mid-level engineers while promoting engineering best practices and code quality standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering team.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
Relevant backend/cloud certifications are an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 6+ years’ experience in backend software engineering.
Proven experience building scalable enterprise or SaaS applications.
Strong experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
Experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring developers is highly preferred.

Pay: ₦800,000.00 - ₦1,600,000.00 per month
