Our client, a leading financial institution with a significant presence in Nigeria, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Banking & Finance Lawyer to join their robust legal department in **Makurdi, Benue, NG**. This crucial role will focus on providing expert legal advice and support on a wide range of complex financial transactions, including syndicated loans, project finance, acquisition finance, and general corporate lending. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Nigerian banking and financial regulations, capital markets, and debt structuring.
Key responsibilities include advising financial institutions, corporations, and government entities on intricate financing arrangements. You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating loan agreements, security documents, intercreditor agreements, and other financing-related documentation. The Senior Banking & Finance Lawyer will conduct legal due diligence on borrowers and transaction structures, identify and mitigate legal and financial risks, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in advising on regulatory matters impacting the financial sector and may be involved in capital markets transactions, such as debt issuances. Collaboration with business development, credit risk, and compliance teams will be essential to deliver comprehensive legal solutions. This position is based in our **Makurdi, Benue, NG** office and requires a full-time commitment. Exceptional analytical skills, strong negotiation capabilities, and the ability to manage complex transactions under tight deadlines are essential. You will be instrumental in facilitating the firm's lending activities and ensuring the integrity of its financial operations.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and admission to the Nigerian Bar. A Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Banking & Finance or Corporate Law is highly preferred. A minimum of 9 years of relevant experience in banking and finance law, preferably with a reputable financial institution or a top-tier law firm. Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating complex loan agreements and security documentation. In-depth knowledge of Nigerian banking law, financial regulations, and capital markets. Proven track record in advising on syndicated loans, project finance, and acquisition finance. Strong understanding of corporate finance principles and debt restructuring. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills. Superior written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple complex transactions and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Experience with cross-border transactions is a plus.
