We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Cardiothoracic Nurse Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers Employment Type: Full-time Key Responsibilities Provide preoperative assessment and preparation for cardiothoracic surgery patients. Monitor and manage postoperative patients in recovery and ward settings, including chest drains, tracheostomies, and hemodynamic monitoring. Administer medications, IV infusions, blood products, and pain management as prescribed.
Assist in perioperative care and coordinate with surgical, anaesthesia, ICU, and physiotherapy teams. Perform cardiac and respiratory observations, interpret basic monitoring data, and escalate concerns promptly. Educate patients and families on postoperative care, wound management, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications.
Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols. Participate in emergency response for cardiac/respiratory events and support continuous quality improvement activities.
Requirements Registered Nurse with current practicing license (Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria). Minimum 2 years’ experience in cardiothoracic, cardiac, ICU, or high-dependency nursing. Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative care, chest drain management, ventilator basics, ECG interpretation, and hemodynamic monitoring.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent is an advantage. Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends, and perform under pressure.
