Job Description
We are currently recruiting an Accountant for a leading construction company to be based in Lagos, Nigeria. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing an organization's entire accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulations. They manage daily accounting operations, month-end closures, tax filings, and internal controls while often reporting to the Managing Director.
Responsibilities
• Prepare, analyze, and verify monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP).
• Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff, including bookkeepers and accountants.
• Manage corporate tax returns, VAT, and payroll taxes, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Develop and monitor internal accounting control procedures; coordinate with internal and external auditors for audits.
• Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring, and tracking expenses against budget.
• Oversee bank reconciliations, cash flow, and treasury functions to ensure optimal liquidity.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.
• 10-15years of Proven working experience as a Chief Accountant, accounting manager, or senior accountant, typically within a corporate environment.
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFA, or ACCA is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, proficiency in accounting software/ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to juggle several projects/orders concurrently.
• Dynamic, result-oriented, enthusiastic and able to deliver and achieve targets.
• Must have team management experience.
• Must have a multitasking skill.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office.
• Fluent in English is a must.
