Industry: Renewable & Sustainable Energy Job Type: Full-Time/onsite Pay: competitive, within industry standards but negotiable
Job Summary Our client, a forward-thinking provider of renewable and sustainable power solutions based in Victoria Island, is seeking a highly skilled and technical Project Manager with a core background in Hydro Engineering. The successful candidate will take full ownership of the end-to-end execution of various hydro construction, rehabilitation, and renovation projects across Lagos State. This role demands a professional who can seamlessly bridge the gap between deep technical hydro-engineering execution and high-level project management, ensuring that all sustainable energy infrastructures are built to international standards, delivered on time, and remain within budget. Key Responsibilities 1. Project Planning & Lifecycle Management • Lead the comprehensive planning, design evaluation, and execution of hydro power construction and facility renovation projects across Lagos State. • Develop robust project roadmaps, work breakdown structures (WBS), resource allocation plans, and accurate financial budgets. • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new hydro sites or renovation targets, mitigating operational and financial risks early in the project lifecycle. 2. Site Engineering & Technical Oversight • Apply core hydro-engineering principles to oversee daily site activities, ensuring that civil structures, turbine installations, penstocks, and water flow dynamics meet exact technical specifications. • Review and approve engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and material specifications provided by internal teams or external consultants. • Troubleshoot complex technical challenges on-site, particularly those unique to the coastal and riverine environments of Lagos. 3. Contractor & Stakeholder Management • Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the performance of civil contractors, electrical engineers, heavy equipment operators, and site laborers. • Act as the primary liaison between the Victoria Island executive team and the on-site execution teams. • Manage relationships with local community stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and environmental bodies in Lagos State to ensure smooth project continuity and community buy-in. 4. Quality Assurance, HSE & Sustainability • Ensure all projects adhere strictly to Nigerian environmental regulations, Duke Energy’s sustainability mandates, and global Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards. • Oversee Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) related to water bodies and ensure zero-harm practices during construction and renovation. • Implement strict quality control measures for all building materials and hydro-mechanical equipment deployed to the sites. 5. Budgeting, Monitoring & Reporting • Monitor project financials relentlessly to prevent cost overruns, managing procurement and contractor payouts efficiently. • Provide detailed, data-driven weekly and monthly progress reports to the executive leadership team. Qualifications & Requirements • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Hydro Engineering or Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related field, with a distinct specialization in Hydro power. • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands-on technical experience in hydro construction, dam renovation, or large-scale water infrastructure projects. • Proven track record serving as a Project Manager or Lead Engineer in the renewable energy or heavy construction sector. • Professional engineering registration (e.g., COREN) is an added advantage. • Recognized Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is highly desirable. • Deep familiarity with the topography, water bodies, and regulatory frameworks of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. Key Competencies • Technical Authority: Deep understanding of hydro-mechanical equipment, fluid mechanics, and civil works related to sustainable energy projects. • Leadership & Command: Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage high-pressure on-site environments, and drive contractor accountability. • Problem-Solving: Agile and decisive in resolving unexpected engineering or logistical bottlenecks. • Sustainability Focus: A genuine commitment to renewable energy practices and environmental conservation.
