Job summary

We are looking for a responsible, tech-savvy, proactive and detail-oriented Restaurant Accountant to manage restaurant financial records and help ensure proper control of sales, payments, expenses and stock. The ideal candidate must be good with numbers, honest, organized and able to identify differences in financial records.

Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reconciliation:

• Take ownership of daily financial reconciliation.

• Reconcile sales against cash, POS, bank transfers and other approved payment channels.

• Reconcile recorded orders against actual payments received.

• Investigate and report all financial differences.

• Review cashier closing reports and supporting records.

• Monitor refunds, voids, discounts, cancelled orders and complimentary items.

• Ensure all transactions have proper supporting records.

• Identify unusual transactions, patterns or possible revenue leakage.

• Maintain strong controls around cash handling and payment processes.

Inventory & Cost Control:

• Work with operations to reconcile stock purchases, stock issued, stock used, waste and closing stock.

• Monitor food costs and major operating expenses.

• Identify unusual stock movements and unexplained shortages.

• Monitor supplier invoices and payments.

• Review purchasing records and supporting documents.

• Help management control waste and unnecessary spending.

• Support proper portion and product-cost analysis.

Reporting & Management Information:

• Prepare accurate daily, weekly and monthly financial reports.

• Prepare profit and loss reports.

• Track revenue, expenses, gross profit and operating costs.

• Monitor cash flow.

• Prepare budgets and compare actual performance against budget.

• Identify important financial trends.

• Present management with clear reports, not just raw figures.

• Highlight financial risks before they become major problems.

• Recommend practical ways to improve profitability and financial control.

Systems & Technology The successful candidate must be comfortable using technology to improve accounting and control.
You should be able to:

• Use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets at an advanced level.

• Build and maintain reconciliation sheets and financial trackers.

• Work confidently with POS reports and digital payment records.

• Organise financial information using cloud-based systems.

• Improve existing accounting and reporting processes.

• Create simple dashboards that help management understand business performance.

• Reduce manual errors through better systems and automation.

• Work with accounting software and quickly learn new systems.

• Knowledge of tools such as QuickBooks, Sage, Excel, Google Workspace, Zoho Books or similar accounting software is an advantage.

I****nternal Control & Accountability
You will be expected to help protect the financial integrity of the business.
This includes:

• Checking that company financial procedures are followed.

• Identifying weaknesses in existing financial controls.

• Flagging suspicious transactions or unusual financial activity.

• Preventing unapproved payment practices.

• Maintaining proper documentation and audit trails.

• Making sure financial records can be independently verified.

• Escalating serious differences or control failures to management immediately.

Requirements:

• B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related field.

• Strong practical accounting experience.

• Experience in restaurants, hospitality, retail, FMCG or another high-volume transaction business is highly preferred.

• Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills.

• Strong knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets.

• Good understanding of accounting software.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

• Good understanding of internal controls.

• Excellent attention to detail.

• Able to work independently and take ownership.

• Able to meet reporting deadlines.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• High level of integrity and confidentiality.

• Professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, ICAN or equivalent are an advantage but are not compulsory where the candidate can demonstrate strong practical ability.

What Success Looks Like:
A successful person in this role should be able to help management answer questions such as:

• What were our actual sales today?

• Did every recorded sale result in payment?

• Does the money received match the orders processed?

• Where did today's expenses go?

• What is our food cost?

• What products are generating the best margins?

• Where are we losing money?

• Are there unexplained cash or stock differences?

• Are our purchasing costs increasing?

• What is our actual profit?

• What financial risks require management attention?

Important:

• This is a hands-on operational accounting role within a restaurant business.

• Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their ability during the recruitment process.

• Shortlisted applicants may be given a practical Excel, reconciliation and financial-control assessment before final selection.

Remuneration: NGN 250,000 – 400,000 monthly, depending on experience, technical ability and performance during the recruitment process.
