ACCOUNTANT / TECHNICAL ASSISTANT TO THE FOUNDER Private Education Group — Lekki, LagosFull-time, on-site | Reports to the Founder
About the role
We are a founder-led education group in Lekki, Lagos, comprising a private primary school and a related education venture. We are looking for one capable person to hold two connected briefs: run the finance function, and work directly alongside the Founder on the analysis, follow-through and reporting that keeps the wider business moving.
This suits someone with a finance foundation and genuine range — comfortable closing the month, then turning to a board paper, a partnership model or a strategy memo. You will see the whole business from close range.
Finance responsibilities
• Manage fee billing, collections and receivables, and follow up on outstanding fees with tact and discretion
• Process payroll and remit PAYE, pension and other statutory deductions on schedule
• Handle vendor payments, procurement records, petty cash and expense controls
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain the general ledger
• Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts and budget variance reports
• Support annual budgeting and termly financial planning
• Maintain the fixed asset register and inventory records
• Coordinate with auditors, tax consultants and regulators; keep the group compliant with FIRS and LIRS obligations
Technical Assistant responsibilities
• Prepare briefing notes, board and management papers, presentations and correspondence for the Founder
• Conduct research and analysis on new initiatives, partnerships, market opportunities and competitor activity
• Build and maintain financial models and business cases for new projects
• Track strategic initiatives across the group and follow up with owners so decisions actually land
• Coordinate meetings, minutes and action registers on the Founder's behalf
• Act as a discreet point of contact with external partners, advisers and stakeholders
What we're looking for
• BSc/HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline
• ICAN or ACCA qualified, or actively working towards it
• 3–5 years of experience spanning accounting and analytical or business-support work; banking, consulting, audit or a founder-facing role is an advantage
• Genuinely strong in Excel and PowerPoint; confident with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage or similar)
• Tech savvy — comfortable picking up new tools quickly, and confident using AI tools, automation and digital platforms to work faster. A distinct advantage in this role
• Clear, precise writer — much of this role is putting complex things on one page
• Sound working knowledge of Nigerian tax and payroll compliance
• Absolute integrity and discretion; you will handle sensitive information about families, staff and the business
• Self-directed and reliable, with the judgement to know what needs escalating and what does not
• Ambitious, and looking for the exposure that comes with sitting close to a founder
What we offer
• Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
• Support for professional examinations and development
• Unusual visibility across a growing group, and a direct line to the Founder
• A close, values-driven team building something considered and long-term
