Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Lightway Group is seeking a detail-oriented and analytically strong Accountant to join its Finance & Treasury function. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day accounting and treasury operations support, working closely with Management to execute, record, and reconcile treasury and trading transactions across the Group. The role requires a solid understanding of banking sector expectations and regulatory conventions, sound working knowledge of treasury and trading instruments, and familiarity with cross-border payments, remittance flows, and fintech-enabled payment infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role suited to a candidate who combines core accounting discipline with treasury and correspondent banking exposure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Treasury & Trading Support
• Support the execution, confirmation, and settlement of money market, fixed income, foreign exchange, and other treasury trading transactions, in line with instructions and limits set by Management.
• Maintain accurate treasury dealing records, deal tickets, and settlement instructions, ensuring timely and error-free processing.
• Monitor daily cash and liquidity positions, nostro/correspondent account balances, and funding requirements, and escalate gaps or exceptions promptly.
• Prepare treasury and trading reconciliations, mark-to-market schedules, and position reports to support informed decision-making.
• Assist in monitoring counterparty limits, placement maturities, and rollovers, and in maintaining accurate records of investment and money market placements.

Banking Relationships & Correspondent Banking
• Understand and apply standard banking sector expectations, including SWIFT messaging conventions, settlement cycles, KYC/CDD requirements for banking counterparties, and correspondent banking documentation.
• Liaise with correspondent banks, deposit money banks (DMBs), and other financial institutions on account reconciliations, funding requests, and transaction queries.
• Support the preparation of documentation required to open, maintain, and audit correspondent and settlement accounts.

Cross-Border Payments, Remittance & Fintech
• Process, reconcile, and report on cross-border payment and remittance transactions, ensuring accuracy of exchange rates, fees, and settlement timing.
• Work with fintech payment partners, switches, and remittance service providers to reconcile transaction volumes, settlement reports, and float/nostro positions.
• Maintain a working understanding of remittance corridors, FX conversion mechanics, and the regulatory framework governing cross-border transfers (e.g., CBN guidelines on international money transfer operations).
• Identify and escalate discrepancies, failed transactions, or settlement delays with fintech and remittance partners.

General Accounting & Financial Reporting
• Prepare journal entries, general ledger postings, and account reconciliations relating to treasury, trading, and banking activities.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, income recognition on treasury assets, and balance sheet substantiation.
• Assist in preparing regulatory and management returns relating to treasury and liquidity, in line with applicable Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Support internal and external audit exercises by providing accurate documentation and analysis of treasury and trading transactions.

Compliance & Risk
• Ensure all treasury, trading, and cross-border transactions comply with the Group's internal policies, applicable regulatory guidelines, and AML/CFT regulations.
• Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all treasury and remittance transactions.
• Support the Group's risk and compliance functions in periodic reviews of treasury and correspondent banking activity.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Professional accounting certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) required; candidates pursuing certification will be considered.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' relevant experience in accounting, treasury operations, or trading support, ideally within a bank, microfinance bank, or fintech environment.
• Prior banking sector experience strongly preferred - candidates with a background in a commercial bank, microfinance bank, or similar regulated financial institution will be given priority consideration.
• Demonstrable exposure to cross-border payments, international remittance operations, or fintech payment platforms is highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of applicable Nigerian financial services regulatory requirements, including liquidity and treasury reporting obligations.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Strong understanding of treasury operations, money market and FX instruments, and trade settlement processes.
• Proficiency in core banking/treasury applications and accounting software; strong Microsoft Excel skills (financial modelling, reconciliation, and reporting).
• Familiarity with SWIFT messaging, nostro/vostro account structures, and correspondent banking processes.
• Sound knowledge of cross-border remittance flows, FX conversion, and fintech payment rails.
• High attention to detail and accuracy, with strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
• Sound understanding of financial reporting standards (IFRS) and internal control principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with banks, fintech partners, auditors, and regulators.
• High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism given the sensitive nature of treasury and banking information.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight settlement deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
• Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable operating with clearly defined delegated authority, given that final treasury decisions rest with Management.
• Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across finance, operations, risk, and compliance functions.
• Committed to continuous learning, particularly in areas of treasury management, trading, and evolving fintech/remittance regulation.
