Job Description
Company Description

AfriPay is a mission-driven fintech company focused on bridging the financial inclusion gap for unbanked and underbanked Africans, with a primary focus on rural and last-mile communities. The company is building an inclusive payment ecosystem that enables everyday people—regardless of their access to traditional banking—to transact, save, and participate in the digital economy. By simplifying payments and leveraging low-tech solutions such as USSD and agent networks, AfriPay empowers rural populations and creates mass job opportunities through local entrepreneurship.
The company is committed to innovation in inclusive financial technology, enabling greater access, dignity, and economic participation for millions of underserved Africans.

Role Description The Investment Specialist at AfriPay will support strategic capital-raising and investment-readiness initiatives that accelerate the company’s growth and strengthen its position in the African financial inclusion market. This is a 3-month project-based, remote role.

Day-to-day responsibilities include building and maintaining financial models, performing valuation analyses, and preparing materials to support grant applications, impact investment pitches, and capital-raising transactions. The specialist will conduct due diligence on potential development finance partners (e.g., DFIs, impact investors, and foundations), analyze market and regulatory trends in African fintech, and prepare investment memos, pitch decks, and reports for internal stakeholders and external funders. The role also involves working closely with the founding team and cross-functional leads to refine AfriPay’s financial strategy, unit economics, and investor narrative.

Qualifications

• Finance & Investments: Demonstrated experience in corporate finance, impact investing, development finance, or investment banking—ideally with exposure to fintech, microfinance, or emerging markets.

• Financial Modeling: Advanced proficiency in building forecast models, valuation models (DCF, comparable company, etc.), and scenario/sensitivity analyses tailored to early-stage or high-growth ventures.

• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex data, assess unit economics, model customer acquisition costs, and support data-driven decision-making for rural-focused business models.

• Due Diligence: Solid research and risk assessment capabilities, including evaluation of financial, operational, and regulatory information relevant to fintech and mobile money ecosystems.

• Education & Certification: Relevant academic background in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field; professional certifications (e.g., CFA, ACA, ACCA) are an advantage.

• Tools: High proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools; strong command of presentation tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, or Google Slides.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, compelling narratives for impact investors, grant committees, and internal stakeholders.

• Work Style: Ability to work effectively in a hybrid, fast-paced startup environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with teams across functions and geographies.

Why This Role Matters
This is a unique opportunity to work directly with the founding team of a high-impact African fintech at a pivotal stage. The Investment Specialist will play a hands-on role in securing the capital needed to scale AfriPay’s solution to millions of unbanked Africans and drive meaningful job creation in rural communities.
