POSITION DUTIES
Interested in work that directly supports statewide financial reporting and accounting operations? The General Accounting Division is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Staff Accountant to join the financial reporting team.\r\n\r\n\r\nResponsibilities include preparing financial schedules and other supporting documentation for the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), reviewing and processing working fund transactions, participating in month-end and year-end financial close activities, and providing direction and guidance to State agencies. \r\n\r\n\r\nWe would be honored to have you join our team. \r\n\r\n\r\nPlease Note: \r\n\r\n\r\nWork is subject to strict fiscal year-end and financial reporting deadlines. Extended hours may be required during peak reporting periods, including fiscal year-end close and ACFR preparation. The selected candidate will be unable to prepare tax returns for compensation due to a conflict of interest with their duties as a Comptroller of Maryland employee.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.\r\nExperience: Three years of professional accounting experience.\r\nNote: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in financial management classification or financial management specialty codes in the accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. \r\n** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalence evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html. \r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n One year of experience supporting statewide financial activities, including preparing note disclosures, and supporting schedules.\r\n One year of experience reviewing and analyzing financial information to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.\r\n One year of experience applying Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Standards.\r\n One year of experience processing, reviewing or reconciling Working Funds or similar financial transactions, including researching discrepancies and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.\r\n Experience using R*STARS or other full-scale enterprise accounting software.\r\n Proficiency using Microsoft Excel.\r\n Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.\r\n One year of experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to prepare, analyze, or review financial records and reports.\r\n One year of experience performing preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, financial schedules, or other supporting financial reporting documentation.\r\n One year of experience performing month-end or year-end closing activities, including researching and resolving accounting discrepancies.\r\n\r\n
