About the Role • The organisation is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Human Resources to lead its end-to-end people function across its industrial, agricultural, commercial, and support operations.
• The Head of Human Resources will serve as the principal adviser to the Managing Director/CEO on people, organisation, and workforce matters.
• The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the organisation has the right workforce, leadership capability, performance discipline, employee-relations framework, and practical HR systems required to operate safely, productively, and sustainably.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead workforce planning, organisation design, recruitment, and timely mobilisation of critical talent.
• Develop and maintain accurate job descriptions, organisation charts, headcount controls, onboarding, probation, and confirmation processes.
• Lead recruitment across executive, professional, technical, farm, factory, sales, and support roles.
• Oversee HR operations, employee records, attendance, shifts, leave, contracts, transfers, and exit documentation.
• Provide oversight of payroll inputs, overtime, allowances, deductions, benefits, and employee master data while maintaining proper segregation of duties with Finance.
• Develop practical job grades, salary structures, benefits, and support periodic compensation benchmarking.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Nigerian labour, pension, tax, employee-compensation, and employment regulations.
• Lead performance management, talent reviews, succession planning, employee development, and retention initiatives.
• Develop and implement annual learning and capability-development plans covering technical, supervisory, safety, quality, and leadership needs.
• Manage employee relations, grievances, disciplinary matters, investigations, and terminations fairly and effectively.
• Advise management on shift-workforce, contract-labour, industrial-relations, and employee-relations risks.
• Build a culture of performance, safety, accountability, respect, and employee engagement.
• Monitor employee turnover, absenteeism, workplace climate, misconduct, and labour-related risks.
• Set and monitor HR service standards and budgets for staff accommodation, employee transport, and canteen services.
• Develop HR strategy, annual plans, budgets, HR policies, systems, controls, and management reports.
• Provide HR dashboards covering headcount, labour cost, vacancies, turnover, attendance, performance, learning, and employee relations.
• Advise the CEO and leadership team on organisation design, restructuring, change management, workforce cost, and people risks.
First 12-Month Priorities The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Establish effective payroll controls in collaboration with Finance.
• Develop and secure approval for the workforce plan and staffing budget.
• Establish a robust employee-relations and disciplinary framework.
• Deliver recruitment for critical roles.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive, broad-based HR experience, including at least four years leading a substantial HR function or operating as a Senior HR Manager/HR Business Partner ready for full functional leadership.
• Substantial HR experience in agribusiness or industrial manufacturing is essential and non-negotiable.
• Direct experience infeed milling, poultry, or integrated farming will be strongly preferred.
• Demonstrable end-to-end experience across workforce planning, recruitment, payroll and reward, performance management, learning, employee relations, compliance, HR systems, and people analytics.
• Experience managing a mixed workforce comprising managers, technical employees, shift workers, factory/farm operatives, contract staff, and casual labour.
• Strong employee-relations experience in an industrial environment.
• Experience building or strengthening HR systems within a growing, greenfield, or operationally demanding organisation.
• CIPM membership or another recognised HR professional qualification is strongly preferred.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification will be an advantage.
• Willingness to be based in Ngor Okpala, Imo State, and work regularly across mills, farms, and other operating locations.
