Job Summary
• We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Relationship/Underwriting Officer to join our insurance brokerage firm.
• This role combines technical underwriting knowledge with strong relationship management skills to maintain a healthy client portfolio and support business growth.
Job Responsibilities
• Assess client risk profiles and determine appropriate insurance coverage, terms, and premiums in conjunction with underwriters.
• Liaise with insurance companies/underwriters to obtain competitive quotes, negotiate terms, and confirm placements.
• Review proposal forms and supporting documents to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission to underwriters.
• Prepare, review, and issue policy documents, cover notes, schedules, and endorsements in line with agreed terms.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their insurance needs are understood and appropriately met.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, addressing inquiries on coverage, policy terms, and claims status.
• Monitor policy renewals and proactively engage clients and underwriters ahead of expiry to ensure continuity of cover.
• Support the claims process by liaising between clients and underwriters/loss adjusters to ensure timely and fair settlement.
• Maintain accurate records of client policies, underwriting terms, premiums, and renewal dates.
• Ensure all underwriting and client documentation complies with regulatory and company standards.
• Prepare periodic reports on portfolio performance, renewals, claims, and underwriting activity.
• Stay informed on insurance market trends, underwriting practices, and regulatory changes.
Key Requirements
• B.Sc Degree / HND in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
• 2–3 years' experience in underwriting, relationship management, or client servicing within an insurance brokerage or insurance company.
• Relevant professional certifications e.g., CIIN – Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria are an advantage.
• Sound understanding of underwriting principles and various insurance products life, health, property, motor, marine, corporate, etc..
• Strong relationship management and client service skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
• Good knowledge of Nigerian insurance laws and regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills for liaising with underwriters and clients.
• Ability to manage multiple client accounts and renewals simultaneously.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
