Job Description
We are seeking a highly competent Chief Accountant to lead our finance function. The ideal candidate must be a qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAN) with proven experience in the manufacturing sector. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, leadership ability, and a deep understanding of cost management, inventory accounting, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Control
• Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in accordance with IFRS and Nigerian GAAP.
• Manage the general ledger, trial balance, and month-end/year-end closing processes.
• Ensure reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, including banks, receivables, payables, and inventory.
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
4. Implement and monitor product costing, bill of materials (BOM) validation, and variance analysis.
5. Track raw material consumption, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods inventory.
6. Analyze production costs, overhead allocation, and margin per product line.
Compliance & Taxation
7. Ensure full compliance with Nigerian tax laws: VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE, and other statutory deductions.
8. Manage timely filing of all tax returns and coordinate with FIRS and state revenue authorities.
9. Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies.
Treasury & Cash Management
10. Monitor cash flow, working capital, and fund utilization for plant operations.
11. Oversee vendor payments, payroll, and other disbursements.
Internal Controls & Systems
12. Develop and enforce internal control policies to safeguard company assets.
13. Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems (ERP) and processes.
Team Management
14. Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounts team (junior accountants, clerks).
15. Coordinate with procurement, stores, and production departments on financial matters.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Education: Qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAN, Nigeria) - mandatory.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience, specifically in a manufacturing company (factory/plant environment).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP accounting software (e.g., Sage, Odoo, SAP, or similar), advanced Excel, and tax filing platforms.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Timeliness and accuracy of monthly financial reports (≤5 working days after month end).
• Zero penalties from tax authorities for late or incorrect filings.
• Reduction in production cost variances through effective cost control.
• Clean internal and external audit reports.
